Wahl Hot-Cold Massaging Gel Pack

-- First-of-its-kind solution combines heating pads, hot/cold packs and soothing massage --

STERLING, ILL. (March 12, 2013) – Hot/Cold packs, heating pads and massage therapy—together they represent some of the most common ways of treating muscle and joint pain affecting millions of Americans every year. Now, for the first time ever, Wahl is bringing these treatment options together in one innovative product.

The new Hot-Cold Therapy Vibrating Massage Gel Pack is the latest in a series of new pain management products from Wahl, the company that invented the first electric massager nearly 100 years ago. Unlike conventional hot and cold packs, Wahl’s new all-in-one offering features a powerful massaging disc for added pain relief.

“People in pain use heating pads, hot/cold packs and massage separately because there has never been one product incorporating them all,” said Jenny McLaughlin, product manager for Wahl’s massager division. “Our new Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack is groundbreaking because it combines heat, and cold and massage all in one unit. By bringing these various routines together, we’re not only making pain management more convenient, we’re also enhancing the overall experience.”

The new Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack is the only product on the market to meet three of the four pain management product segments: hot/cold packs, heating pads and massagers. According to Wahl, the combination of temperature and massage therapy is creating a whole new category of pain management—and one that is already in high demand.

In a study commissioned by Wahl, eight out of 10 consumers said they would buy a massager with a hot and cold feature for their pain needs. Nearly 60 percent of those already owning a hand-held massager are using their device for pain management instead of for relaxation.

The benefits of heat and massage include increased circulation to promote healing and relief of sore muscles. Cold therapy is designed to restrict blood flow to reduce swelling and inflammation. For treatments such as joint pain and soreness of the extremities, light massage plus cold therapy can help speed up the recovery.

The new Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack includes a large extra thick gel pack and deep-penetrating massage disc which is inserted into the unit’s micro-fiber case. The gel pack is specially designed to contour to the user’s body. Once heated in the microwave or chilled in the freezer, the gel pack will hold its temperature for up to 30 minutes. The new Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack offers Velcro straps to keep the pack securely in place for hands-free pain relief.

In addition to the new Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack, Wahl recently added two temperature therapy products: the new Hot-Cold Therapy Massager and the Heat Therapy Massager. Both products have demonstrated success with consumers and retailers.

The Wahl Hot-Cold Massage Gel Pack will be available online at www.wahlhomeproducts.com as well as at select retailers nationwide for a MSRP of $24.99.
